Kenya Aquatics has placed itself in a position to host an exclusive Africa Aquatics Masters Swimming Championship in the coming year.
This comes after the federation representatives - led by President Maureen Owiti - with the support of other African federations, proposed the idea during a Bureau meeting in the recently concluded XVI Africa Aquatics Swimming and Open Water Championships in Luanda, Angola.

The development comes in the wake of Kenya Aquatics making big strides in promoting and enhancing the masters swimming scene.
In March this year, Sabis International School - Runda hosted the inaugural edition of the Kenya Aquatics National Masters Swimming Championships, aimed at emphasizing the broader significance of masters galas while stressing the importance of networking and fostering social capital among adults.
Potterhouse School also hosted the Kiambu Masters Swimming Championships in December last year.
From an African perspective, the championships, if given greenlight by newly elected Africa Aquatics President Dr. Mohamed Diop, could be the first in the African continent, following strides made by Europe and Asia, who host championships biennially.
At the same time, Husain Al Musallam, President of World Aquatics, while speaking in Luanda, expressed his appreciation for the advancements in swimming across the continent.
He also encouraged African aquatics leaders to expand their focus to include other disciplines such as water polo, diving, and artistic swimming.
Reaffirming World Aquatics' commitment, Al Musallam emphasized the organization’s intent to partner with African nations to foster the development of aquatic sports, aspiring to achieve growth comparable to that of other continents.
